| Gourmet flavored coffee can best be described as coffee that
has been enriched with flavors right after the roasting
process is complete. The flavors are usually concentrated
and are added in small amounts to achieve the desired taste.
Many coffee purists won't dare take a sip of flavored
coffee! But, others won't even take a sip of unflavored
coffee, hence the onslaught of so many different flavors on
the market. Either flavored or unflavored, coffee has a variety of benefits, one of which is waking you up in the morning. Like tea, it is also associated with therapeutic effects that are good for your system. Given this coffee is deemed as essential for some and they can hardly imagine their life without it. Since coffee is a mainstay for society, manufacturers are going wild with their flavoring offerings. They offer an organic gourmet blend of exotic wild rice and fragrant Wehani, two delicious whole grain rices with savory nutty flavors and delightful textures. Lotus Foods of El Cerrito California has premium rices, some grown in the U.S. and also some imported heirloom rices. They say their Organic Forbidden Rice is 'an ancient grain.... once eaten exclusively by the Emperors.' It has a fabulous nutty taste, wonderful soft texture, and beautiful rich deep purple color. There are many excellent rice pastas available. I am partial to the vermicelli since you can't detect that texture that often comes with the rice pastas. If you add the right sauce however, it doesn't matter as much which pasta you use. Try a great pesto, or traditional marinara. Mom's Garlic & Basil Spaghetti Sauce from Fischer & Wieser in Texas, is a delightful Marinara sauce. If you like a pesto sauce with a twist, try the Chardonnay Artichoke Pesto sauce from Gil's Gourmet of Sand City CA. There are many sauces with simple ingredients that should be safe for most people with gluten intolerance. If you are extremely sensitive, you might want to stay with the products that are guaranteed to be gluten-free. I like to concoct my own sauces. Try lightly stir-frying your favorite vegetables and adding a fantastic tapenade. One of my favorite combos is zucchini, tomatoes, garlic and an olive tapenade. The third factor in creating the best gourmet flavored coffee cup, is to make sure you coffee maker clean at all times. It helps in maintaining a good flavour. That means that every so often, wash your coffee maker and de-scale it as deposits from the water can create a crust of lime within the coffee maker. Speaking of tapenade and crackers, there is a world of sumptuous snacks that are gluten free. Lundberg makes terrific rice crackers, and for a great corn tortilla chip try Whale Tail Chips. Dip any of these into one of the myriad of salsas made by Santa Barbara Salsa Company in California for a tasty snack or hors d'oeuvre. I'm afraid this has become a meal for me on many occasions. They continue to add tantalizing new flavors. Their Habanero Lime Salsa is a wonderfully smoky salsa that's not too hot. These are just a few foods that could add some pizzazz to your New Year. So, live it up, try something new, and have a fabulous gourmet 2010! |
